Description
Provides consumer education in the areas of: nutrition - education workshops, urban gardening, canning and preserving food, healthy diets; urban agriculture – vegetable gardening; Master Gardner - educate residents about safe, effective and sustainable horticultural practices that build healthy gardens, landscapes, and communities; finance management education; 4-H Youth Development - 4-H teaches youth (ages 5-18) through hands-on “learn by doing” activities that focuses on science, healthy living, and civic engagement; volunteer opportunities; and more. ***Please Note: Due to COVID19, most services are being offered virtually (such as UME Family and Consumer Sciences Virtual Education, Maryland 4-H Virtual Summer Camp, 4-H Virtual Activity Clubs, 4-H Winter Virtual Activity Clubs, Virtual Entrepreneurial Coaching Session, Virtual Vegetable Grower Meeting, etc.). To access services, please call or email the office or go online and search for virtual activities. No walk-ins are accepted. The extension program is also offering online resources to help Maryland residents during this pandemic.

Offers Maryland Access Point (MAP) - provides information and referral, benefits checkup to determine programs and services that an individual may be eligible for on a local state and federal level (housing assistance, food programs, utilities assistance), health education, and options counseling; List of Senior Centers in Baltimore City; State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) provides information regarding prescription coverage and health benefits related to Medicare and benefit programs; Family Caregiver Support Program - provides information and assistance gaining access to services, mental health, drug and alcohol support, individual counseling, support groups, caregiver training, and respite care; TaxiCard program - subsidized transportation to eligible Baltimore City residents 60 years or older or individuals with a disability, TaxiCard can be used with participating taxicab companies to pay for an entire fare or a portion of the fare 24 hours per day, 7 days a week; and Volunteer opportunities.
